Dr. John M. Erickson is an orthopaedic surgeon and hand specialist in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is a member of the Raleigh Hand Center, a multi-disciplinary clinic which has been dedicated to the care of patients with hand and upper extremity conditions since 1988. Dr. Erickson offers his patients advanced surgical and non-surgical treatments for conditions of the hand and upper extremity. His treatment approach is compassionate and individualized, balancing conservative medical care with state-of-the-art surgical procedures. He works closely with on-site hand therapists to improve function, reduce pain, and improve quality of life.

Hand surgeons are physicians trained in the operative and non-operative treatments of hand conditions. After completing a residency in general, plastic, or orthopaedic surgery, hand surgeons complete an additional year of training in the injuries, diseases, and conditions unique to the hand.
The complete care of the hand involves specialized techniques in orthopaedic, plastic, neurologic, arthroscopic, and microvascular surgery. Hand surgeons may treat patients from all demographics – from infants to the elderly.
Many hand surgeons are also trained in treating conditions of the forearm, elbow and shoulder. In order to optimize rehabilitation after an injury or surgery, hand surgeons work closely with certified hand therapists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists.
Many hand surgeons view the human hand as an elegant instrument vital to independent function and livelihood, not merely as a sum of its anatomic parts.
